After St. George and Parramatta had played out the 100-minute drama
of Sydney rugby league’s first drawn grand final in 1977, spectators
stayed on at Sydney Cricket Ground in seeming stunning disbelief.
Like the players, they were drained, emotionally if not physically.

The Saints and Parramatta finished level, 9-9 that first Saturday,
September 17, 1977. It was a wow of a game, going Saints’ way until
Parramatta’s Ed Sulkowicz scored a dramatic try in the 70th minute, leveling the game. Mick Cronin’s conversion attempt slipped wide of the post.

Unsettled and out of rhythm, Parramatta were always struggling. The
winning score was 22-0; after 180 history-making minutes,
“Bath’s Babes” were the champs."
